With Major League Lawn & Tree Care, I received a request for a new brand logo to represent a local business in South Carolina.
In order to reflect the key points given to me via the client I researched baseball fonts, old hand-painted signage, and the rich history of the area in which the business owner lives. The last name “Major” was done by hand and I balanced that with a classic serif font. The blue of the badge reflects the beautiful royal blue of the palmetto state flag. Sounds like a home run!
This request sent me back to my roots. Metalcore bands and their often grotesque yet humorous, hyper-detailed t-shirt designs with intense color palettes are what lit the spark in my heart to dive into graphic design and illustration. So, of course, when I was approached by the frontman (now former) of the beatdown deathcore band Shoot on Sight to draw up a shirt design I was more than stoked.
Shoot on Sight’s most streamed song “Gary Abusey” led the charge in the direction for this task. After pulling tons of photos (and a few fun videos) of the famed actor Gary Busey I knew exactly where to take this design. Crooked-looking face, puke, grafitti, devil horns, green eyes… is there anything more metal? Probably. But this fits the bill in my mind. It was also fun sneaking “Gary Busey” into the strands of hair for a little game of I Spy.
